Find “the dentist bill from March” by typing “dentist,” not by digging through folders.
Documents too sensitive for just any scanner app
A lease, a medical form, a bank contract — the kind of paperwork you don't want passing through some random app's cloud servers. Ulana does text recognition and editing entirely on your Mac, and lets you permanently redact anything sensitive — an account number, a signature — right in the capture flow, before it's ever saved. Nothing leaves your Mac unless you explicitly choose to send it somewhere.
Every slide, handout, or whiteboard — actually findable later
A lecture, a work training, a conference session — slides move faster than anyone can copy them down by hand. Point a camera at the screen and let Automatic Capture do the work: it grabs a clean page the instant something changes and skips the ones that didn't, so you're not stuck deleting forty near-duplicates afterward. By the time the session ends, it's a searchable PDF and a real note in your Obsidian vault — not a phone full of blurry photos you'll never open again.
A box of old photos and letters, finally organized
Almost everyone has a version of this box — fading photos, a relative's letters, recipe cards in handwriting nobody else can read. Capture each one, and Ulana keeps the collection organized under an identity that survives renaming and time — page counts, revisions, and health tracked automatically as it grows, so nothing quietly goes missing along the way. When a set is finished, it exports as one self-contained, verified package that will still open and make sense years from now, independent of whether Ulana is even still around to read it.
Every meeting and presentation, captured without lifting a finger
Sitting in a meeting or a webinar, capture each slide as it appears — automatic duplicate detection means you're not manually skipping the ones that didn't change. If you're the one presenting from a capture card or a streaming setup, that same feed is already a capture source; no separate scanning device needed. No capture card? Pair an iPhone instead — Desk View turns it into a real overhead camera pointed at your desk — and record the screen alongside it, computer audio included, in the same session as everything else.
Turning a growing pile of material into answers, not clutter
The more you capture, the harder it gets to remember what's where. Ulana automatically summarizes and tags each session the moment you save it, so a folder of forty captures doesn't stay an undifferentiated pile. Ask a question directly against what you've actually captured — grounded in your own material, not a generic chat — or export a structured, source-aligned package built specifically to feed a downstream AI tool cleanly instead of handing it a messy scanned PDF.
For developers
If you'd rather script it than click through it, Ulana's authenticated local API lets you start a session, capture, reorder, and publish from code — producing the exact same validated Portable Package a person using the app by hand would get.
